This Time, He's in the Right Place at the Right Time

Oh that voice! Dr. John claims foremost to be a pianist, master of boogie-woogie, blues, and Cajun swing - but it's his voice that makes him unforgettable. It's a honk, a growl, playful and tipsy and engagingly surly.

He's a Rock'n'Roll Hall of Famer, and he's coming to Cape Cod for a rare appearance, next Monday, August 4th. Just in case your memory needs refreshing... his biggest hit came in 1973, with "Right Place, Wrong Time." He's won six Grammy awards, and continues to record. He'll be appearing with his band, the Nite Trippers.

Guaranteed to be a rollicking good time! In the audio posted above, from All Things Considered, I speak with musical correspondent Matthias Bossi about Dr. John. We listen to a couple of his songs, find out how having his finger almost shot off changed the direction of his career, and learn about the "secret co-writers" of Right Place, Wrong Time. Give it a listen.
