Students Learn Life Skills, Sailing a Ship

Charles Barns (Barney) Davis

Tabor Boy, a 100 foot schooner owned byTabor Academy in Marion, has an educational program aboard. For over 50 years, the schooner has sailed with student crews in charge. This requires teamwork, accountability and leadership, while at the same time enhancing their math and science skills. On The Point, we hear of a documentary film about Tabor Boy, and tales of how the sailing experience has helped transform adventurous teenagers into confident young adults. Guests on the program are John Rice, and Captain James Geil. Mindy Todd hosts.

Mindy Todd is the host and producer of The Point on WCAI which examines critical issues for Cape Cod and the Islands. She brings more than 40 years of experience in radio and television to WCAI.
