5pm: Lighter snow is falling on the Cape, Islands and South Coast, and the National Weather Service in Taunton reports that the most intense portion of the storm has passed the area.
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect on the Cape and Islands until 7 pm, and light snow will continue to fall throughout the evening, which could result in a few more inches of plowable snow in the area, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
The storm brought some powerful wind, with gusts reaching 65 mph on Nantucket in the late morning, and 44 mph in Barnstable in the storm's earliest hours. But the winds did not result in large numbers of power outages. As of 5 p.m., only a handful of Eversource and National Grid customers were without power on the Cape, Islands and South Coast. And, throughout the day, very few communities had more than a dozen homes experience outages at one time.
In terms of communities with the highest snow accumulation, 9 inches were reported in Yarmouth; 8.8 in Oak Bluffs; and 8 inches in Brewster. About 7 inches fell on Nantucket.
