Like other coastal communities, our region will be impacted by sea level rise and an intensification of storm systems. Planning for how our coasts will change and what infrastructure is vulnerable has become imperative. On The Point, Mindy Todd hosts a discussion about the state of our shorelines, new data identifying vulnerable areas in our region, and several projects using ecological approaches to enhance shoreline protection. Guests on the program are: Dr. Rob Thieler, Research Geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey (here's a link to theReport of the Massachusetts Coastal Erosion Commission- Findings and Recommendations that Dr. Thieler worked on); Greg Berman, Coastal Processes Specialist with Woods Hole Sea Grant and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension (here's a link to theSea Grant’s Longshore Sediment Transport Report for Cape Codhe worked on); Julia Knisel, Coastal and Floodplain Manager of the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (here is a link for the Green Infrastructure for Coastal Resilience Grant Programmentioned in the program); Nina Coleman, Park Manager for Sandy Neck; and Rick Karny, shellfish biologist and Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group.
