Orchids Bloom in Hyannis, & more: Best Bets for the Weekend

Cape Cod Times/Steve Heaslip

Don't let the weather keep you inside! There is plenty to do around the area this weekend. If you need a glimpse of flowers, the Cape and Islands Orchid Society has its annual show this weekend in Hyannis - it's your opportunity to bask in the presence of rare and exotic blooms. Friday night, Barnstable High School has a fun fundraiser for its music programs: the Fleetwood Mac tribute band Tusk, who's performance will involve a number of special guests, including the school marching band! Also this weekend, a nationally recognized college poetry group with a local connection -the Excelano Project - is doing two shows in Cotuit. Looking ahead, next week Falmouth kicks off a year-long recognition of the anniversary of its historic colonial-era defiance of the British. And on Tuesday, thousands of college students arrive in Hyannis for a theater festival, sponsored by the Kennedy Center, which offers plenty of events for the theater-loving public to attend.

Steve Junker and Kathi Scrizzi Driscoll discuss events every Thursday during All Things Considered. Audio of this week's conversation is posted below.
