Jewish Influence on the American Musical

Irving Berlin at the piano

Over the last hundred years, musical theater artists have developed a form that corresponds to the Americanization of the increasingly Jewish New York audience. Boston University Professor Stuart Hecht looks at the relationship between Jews, assimilation, and the changing face of the American musical in his book Transposing Broadway: Jews, Assimilation, and the American Musical.  Mindy Todd talks to Hecht on The Point.

Stuart Hecht is scheduled to appear April 2nd at the Falmouth Jewish Congregation.
