Islanders of All Ages Learn Through Dance

Dance is much more than just a series of movements: it includes elements of history, culture, language, and math. The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard aims to bring this comprehensive approach to dance education to all segments of the Vineyard population, from seniors to pre-schoolers. On The Point, Mindy Todd hosts a discussion about how dance is incorporated into school curriculum, and we sit in on a rehearsal of Nut/Cracked with Vineyard high school students. Guests on the program are Jesse Keller, director of Island Programs and Education for The Yard; Deborah Damast, Choreographer and Master Educator from theNYU Steinhardt Dance Education Program; and  David Parker, Artistic Director of The Bang Group.
