Being Ready to Cope When Wild Weather Hits

Jay Norton
Pictures from stormy weather last winter

On The Point, we discuss weather events of the past 10 months; record snowfall and cold for the Northeast, and the relatively quiet hurricane season. We also discuss what kind of weather we might have for the coming winter months. Our guests on the program are Kevin Kloesel, director of Oklahoma Climatological Survey and University Meteorologist, OU Office of Emergency Preparedness, and Peter Judge, Public Information Officer at theMassachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

Make sure you’re prepared for weather events, from hurricanes to snow and coastal flooding: here is a link to theHurricane Evacuation Zones for our region, and also the site for family hurricane preparedness tips.

In the final portion of the program, we hear about some of the Municipal Renewable Energy Projects happening in our region. Towns across the Cape and Islands have been installing renewable energy systems, and now electricity generated from a solar array will provide power to the Regional Emergency Shelter at the Dennis- Yarmouth High School during a power failure. Guests are Liz Argo, manager of programs & administration, Cape and Vineyard Electric Cooperative, and Megan Amsler, executive director of Cape and islands Self Reliance.
