An All-day Event: Snow, Winds Hit Cape Cod, the Islands and South Coast

Cape Cod, the South Coast and Islands are expected to receive 6-10 inches before the snow tapers down and stops overnight Monday.

The snow is accumulating on Cape Cod, creating unsafe travel conditions as tree limbs start to fall on icy roadways. Officials are asking that residents stay off the roads as much as possible in order to clear the way for plow workers.

Roadways like this one in Woods Hole have become much more snow-filled and treacherous during the past hour.

According to the National Weather Service in Taunton, heavy snowfall, strong winds and blizzard conditions will affect the Cape, Islands and South Caost throughout the day. The weather could cause downed power lines and may bring outages. The region could see 6-10 inches of snow before the snow tapers down and stops overnight.

Wind gusts are a major concern, with Northeast wind gusts between 45-65 mph possible. That wind should peak between now and 2 pm.

Moderate coastal flooding is possible late Monday morning during the high tide between 11 a.m. and Noon, according to the Weather Service.
