Nantucket Arts Festival
The Nantucket Arts Festival is produced by the Nantucket Arts Council and sponsored in part by WCAI. This year's theme is, "Art of the See" and the visual centerpiece exhibit opens on Friday, October 2nd from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Preservation Institute Nantucket ( 11 Centre Street). Musical entertainment, refreshments will be offered during the opening night celebration. New this year, the Boston Conservatory presents, "Opera Stars of Tomorrow", featuring students from its renowned opera program at the Dreamland Film and Performing Arts Center. Other highlights include children's events, lectures, and the Nantucket Shorts Festival of Films. More information and a complete schedule may be found here.
TED Talks, the national phenomenon devoted to the spread of ideas by utilizing short, powerful speaking engagements is coming to our region. TEDx events are locally organized and the November 6th Conference will be held in New Bedford for the very first time. Speakers include, INC. Magazine's Fabienne Fredrickson, and Cape Cod climate activist, Jay O'Hara among others. Attendees are invited to explore the theme, "unbound" and witness what happens when we explore the limits of our beliefs. 11th Connecting for Change Conference

WCAI is the media sponsor for the 11th Annual Connecting for Change Conference in New Bedford, October 23rd-25th 2015. This is the largest annual sustainability and social justice conference on the east coast. This year's speakers include: Nikki Silvestri on carbon sequestration and feminine leadership, Doug Rauch on affordable nutrition for the food insecure, and Jackson Koeppel a Brower Youth Award winner exploring co-op alternatives to the extractive economy and many others. A Celebration of Sea, Farm & Vine

What's an island feast without just the right mix of culinary talent and farmers, fishermen, oyster producers, and artisans? Philanthropy Day on Cape Cod

Now in its 19th year, Philanthropy Day on Cape Cod will be held November 10th at the Hyannis Resort & Conference Center. You may nominate individuals, businesses, and organizations to be recognized at this year's event by filling out an online nomination form before the September 23rd deadline. Event attendees may register at a discounted rate before October 9th and will have the opportunity to learn, network, celebrate, and support peers and colleagues in the local philanthropic community. This event always sells out early. WCAI is proud to once again sponsor the event and will be in attendance for the conference.
6th Annual Oyster Symposium

A conference of the World Oyster Society that seeks to identify, integrate, catalyze, and amplify the issue of ocean preservation and oyster restoration efforts. Recognizing the fundamental role that Oysters play in the interplay between land and sea in global environments and feeding the world's hungry. WCAI's Heather Goldstone will participate in the conference. The 2nd Annual Oyster Grand Tasting will showcase oyster preparations by 14 chefs from across the United States and Japan and will be held at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel on October 22nd, from 6:30-8:30 pm. Paula Poundstone, comedian and well-known panelist on NPR's Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, will perform at the Lillie Auditorium in Woods Hole on October 21st.
