The pressures of constant innovation extend even to the timeless pleasure of fishing.
Last week in Orlando, the ICast Convention gathered more than 10,000 people from the global recreational fishing industry on more than 12 acres of showroom to lure fishermen to new gear for catching and enjoying fishing. New toys included smartphone apps and add-ons for weighing your fish, for a making your phone into a fish-finder, and using it as anunderwater camera (no, you don't actually need to submerse the phone).
According to On The Water Magazine editor Kevin Blinkoff, who attended the conference, a few other highlights include a lure painted to resemble a school of fish, and a kayak designed to accommodate an electric trolling motor (existential question: is it still a kayak if you don't need to paddle?).
Audio of our conversation is posted above, along with a rundown of the week's fishing action - give it a listen.
