Two groups that are often perceived to be at odds, fishermen and scientists, have been working together to improve fishing techniques and gear, with the goal of reducing unwanted catches. Among their innovations? The Tickle Dredge and the Noodle Buoy.

Owen Nichols, Director of Marine Fisheries Research at the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown, speaks with Steve Junker about the process of collaboration behind these two new pieces of gear, both of which are based on relatively simple ideas and first brought forward by fishermen. Audio of their conversation is below - give it a listen.

Steve is Managing Editor of News. He came to WCAI in 2007. He also hosts the weekly News Roundup on Friday mornings and produces The Fishing News.
