Shelter from the Storm Benefit, & more: Best Bets for the Weekend

Many music and arts events are planned around the celebration of Valentine's this weekend, so grab a sweetheart and head out to enjoy the holiday that's all about love and caring.

Hundreds of high-schoolers from all over the Cape will come together Friday night to sing, dance and play music to help members of the local community, in the 9th annual Shelter for the Storm concert.

Sunday is Valentine’s Day, and there are a number of arts-related options for marking that day dedicated to love. The Briggs-McDermott House in Bournehas a display of antique Valentines. The Hyannis Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis has a comedic take on Valentines, Day with benefits to help the homeless.  Singers Siobhan Magnus and Mark Mahar perform classic love songs at Monomoy Regional High School  in Harwich on Saturday night. And First Parish Brewster Church has love poetry from 2-4 on Sunday.

Looking ahead, for many students it’s school vacation week next week, and February is also Black History Month, so two libraries in Barnstable are joining up Tuesday to host a traveling theater troupe with programs about black history.
