Parenting to Prevent Substance Use

On The Point, a discussion about parenting to prevent substance use. First, we hear about how drug and alcohol use impacts the developing brain with Dr. Ruth Potee, a family medicine practitioner, board certified in addiction medicine.

Next, we discuss raising healthy and resilient families, strategies for positive and effective parenting, with Kim Slade, program specialist at the Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative at the Barnstable County Department of Human Services, and Cindy Horgan, executive director of Cape Cod Children's Place.

In the final segment of the program, we talk about promoting the factors that prevent teens from engaging in risky behavior: Kim Slade is joined by Traci Wojciechowski, regional director of student assistance programs at Caron, an addiction treatment organization.
