Marine Debris is Polluting the Earth's Oceans

Eight million metric tons of plastic ends up the marine environment each year. On The Point, we talk with marine researchers about where the plastic comes from, and its impacts on the marine ecosystem. We also hear about Washashore, an art exhibit of marine debris that has washed up on California shores, artfully photographed (as seen in the selection included on this page). The exhibit is at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.  Guests on the program are: Kara Lavendar Law, research professor in Oceanography at the Sea Education Association; Peter Kreitler, environmentalist and educator; photographer John Williams; and Ed DeWitt, executive director of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod.
