And our Last In Business today is backfired. A Canadian man sued the Dominican Republic because it rained during his vacation, but his ordeal ended up with the courts raining on his parade.
STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:
Not only did Mr. Bruno Leduc not win his case, he was labeled a "quarrelsome litigant" by a Quebec judge - which is a rare distinction in which the judge declares that someone often demonstrates stubbornness and narcissism.
GREENE: The judge based that conclusion on the 70 small-claims suits Leduc filed in recent years, including one against Costco because employees took too long loading a lawnmower into his shopping cart.
INSKEEP: Oh, come on. They were really slow.
GREENE: (Laughter) Right.
INSKEEP: Anyway, he has won $114,000 in lawsuits since the year 2000. He's won $114,000, but that is likely less than the legal fees he's paid.
GREENE: He's now barred from filing any other lawsuits without first getting approval from a judge. And that's the business - Steve, you know, it's a little warm in the studio. Do you have a lawyer who we might call?
