Homeless Youth

H.A.C.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Education, the number of homeless students has steadily risen over the past 6 years. Being homeless isn’t just about a place to sleep; there are implications on physical and mental health, academic success, and risk behavior. On The Point, we hear the stories of several homeless children and talk with those involved with supports and services for homeless children and their families.

Guests on the program are Laura Reckford, director of community relations for The Housing Assistance Corporation and co-founder of the online magazine Cape Cod Wave.  We also talk to Lin Rohr, Director of Angel House, a Housing Assistance Corporation-operated family shelter in Hyannis for homeless women who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, and their children. And Dr. Charles Jodoin, Director of Student Services at the Falmouth Public Schools.
