Helping Whales in Our Waters

On The Point, we talk about the dangers that whales face and how to best help them cope. First, a discussion about reducing interactions between whales and vessels, and a new Whale Alert App, with guests from theInternational Fund for Animal Welfare: Patrick Ramage, director of the global whale program; and IFAW’s marine mammal rescue and research necropsy coordinator, Misty Niemeyer. Next, we talk about the challenges of disentangling marine mammals, with Scott Landry from the Center for Coastal Studies, joining our host Mindy Todd with an update on the kinds and numbers of animals being found entangled in fishing gear, and efforts to reduce entanglements.
