Thousands of police officers from across the state attended the wake and funeral for slain police officer Sean Gannon. Gannon was killed while serving a warrant in Marstons Mills. Both the wake and funeral were held at St. Pius X Church in Yarmouth, where officers marched in formation outside on Station Avenue, and the Boston police department played bagpipes.
At Gannon's funeral on Wednesday, Reverend Paul Caron said he was a person whose death impacted many.
"And so now we come together and mourn his death," Caron said. "But we also give thanks that he lived, that we came to know him on some level, even though we feel so diminished, stung by his death so tragic and hate-filled, we feel empty."
Yarmouth Police posthumously promoted Gannon to sergeant. His funeral, which was not broadcast at the request of the family, was followed by a procession to a private burial.
