Facts and Questions about Marijuana Today

book cover art

With the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana in Massachusetts and other states, there has been a lot of debate about the risks and benefits of this substance. Is marijuana addictive? Is it a gateway to opioids? Or is it a relatively harmless medicinal herb? We also discuss the effect of marijuana on the developing brain, how to recognize when teens are engaged in substance use, and supports and services for families dealing with addiction.

Guests on The Point include Dr. Kevin Hill, an addiction psychiatrist, Director of the Substance Abuse Consultation Service in McLean Hospital’s Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He’s also written a book titled Marijuana: The Unbiased Truth About The World’s Most Popular Weed.  Other guests are: Dr. Charles Joidin, Director of Student Services at the Falmouth Public Schools; Jen Chagnon, President of the Nicholas J. Lawrence Foundation; and Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne. Mindy Todd hosts. An educational presentation "Hidden in Plain Sight" will take place on Sunday April 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Seacrest Beach Hotel in Falmouth.
