As part of the celebration of the Samaritans of Cape Cod’s 40th Anniversary, comedian Darrell Hammond will be in hosting an event in Barnstable later this week. In addition to performing some of the comedic impressions he became famous for on Saturday Night Live, he’ll share his story of addiction, recovery and his struggles with mental health issues. The event is at Barnstable High School Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Sept. 7th, and is to benefit The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands.
Later in the hour, we hear more about the work of the Samaritans. From suicide prevention hotlines to supports for survivors of suicide and their families, the Samaritans of Cape Cod provide a number of services. Executive Director Stephanie Kelly talks about some of their programs and how the organization has evolved, for over 40 years on Cape Cod.
