Now in its 6th year, the Sea Change environmental film series, sponsored by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, and WCAI Radio, will feature a bird theme. The film series continues on Saturday, March 31st with two short films focused on clashes between the needs of threatened wildlife and those of human beings. Birds of May details the competing interests of Red Knots, a declining shorebird dependent on the food-rich flats of the Delaware Bay, and the expansion of shellfish farming in the region. A second film, Cormorants in the Crosshairs, looks at efforts to protect the salmon fishery in the Pacific Northwest by killing cormorants, seabirds viewed as a chief salmon predator. WCAI’s Heather Goldstone will lead a panel discussion with shorebird researcher and author, Brian Harrington, and Katherine Parsons of Mass Audubon’s Coastal Waterbird Program.
